Aug 26: Célestin ★★★
Halfway between Hollywood Gelato and Eglinton subway station is a small and sophisticated French restaurant. It is by no means easy to get to, but the Mastercard’s 50% off promotion made it worthwhile. A darkly orange soup reminds of the gazpachos of summerlicious but reveals itself to be a full-bodied sweet red pepper soup instead. A sprinkling of herbs decorates the otherwise austere palette. The pissaladière, a French pizza, was bold but too sweet for prolonged ingestion. The sweet figs contrasted the basic goat cheese but it resembled a pie much more than it did a pizza. The lightly (lemon) dressed salad would have been a good retreat, if I had not finished it all too soon.
