Jan 4: Guru Lukshmi ★★★
Dosa seekers across the GTA venture to a strip mall in suburban Mississauga. They pass a Dollarama to wait in the new restaurant by a family of first generation Canadians. Apparently, the owners were unhappy with the state of Indian food. The mother is in the kitchen, the kids wait the tables and the father is the businessman. Unfortunately, the actual atmosphere is much less homely and resembles any of the other victims of suburban sprawl. But the food is worldly. The menu is vegetarian and spicy. My Dosa had a hotness rating of 0/6 but induced some water-chugging rituals. And the flavour was as good as one can expect from what is essentially an oversized spring roll. We followed the brown family beside us and ate with our fingers. It is a great fun.
